The third Old Boys game was moved
the pleasant surroundings of Watford Town Cricket Club with the
balance of the game such that the Goodwill had the edge on the
bowling but the Old Boys had the benefit of the better
batting side. Winning the toss, the Old Boys elected to
bat and suffered immediate disaster as Mark Smith was caught by
stand in 'keeper Steve Graves. Tight
bowling slowed the Old Boys scoring for long periods but the
runs started flowing with the introduction of the
spinners. The Old Boys best batsman, Kevin Gregory, was
run out and that was almost that as the last five Old Boys
wickets fell for just one run, leaving Noddy Smith unbeaten.
In reply the Goodwill were doing
well when two early wickets put them under pressure.
Opener Colin Correa kept plugging away while wickets kept
falling at the other end. The Old Boys fielding was, as
expected, less than athletic but solid for all that and the
Youngsters had trouble keeping to the two runs an over
required. This pressure finally bore fruit with Chris
Cashman holing out to Seamus Rickard to close the innings and
give the Old Boys their first victory in this
fixture.
